The 10 Indian Commandments

The 10 Indian Commandments
1. Treat the earth and all that dwells therein with respect.
2. Remain close to the spirit.
3. Show great respect to your fellow beings.
4. Work together for the benefit of mankind.
5. Give assistance and kindness wherever needed.
6. Do what you know to be right.
7. Look after the well-being of mind and body.
8. Dedicate a share of your efforts to the greater good.
9. Be truthful and honest at all times.
10. Take full responsibilities for your actions.

To me, the 10 Indian Commandments is a list of things that people can use as guidance. It can be guidance towards a good character, or guidance towards making a difficult decision. This list gives you a better understanding of how to approach a situation, and helps with maintaining and strengthening your morality. Knowing these will help you make change occur more often(change for the better). These provide us with the knowledge needed in order to make the world and its people a bit better than how it currently is. We learn how to be truthful at all times, and to admit when we have committed some bad actions. When we have identified our wrong doings, these commandments tell us that we are responsible, and that it’s our job to fix it. The commandments also try to promote equity amongst the people, which helps out the people that don’t have enough guidance or assistance. We are shown how and why we need to sacrifice certain things. It tells us to do that for the sake of kindness, guidance, and for the greater good.

Henry David Thoreau

Henry David Thoreau

“Goodness is the only investment that never fails.” To me, this quote means that you can invest in many things in life, but there is always going to be chance of failing. But there is only one investment, which will never fail you in life. That investment is goodness. Goodness will always reward you, whether it’s financially, or emotionally. Goodness will never cease to pay out, and that should strive you to commit more acts of goodness. An example can your friend committing a crime. If you turn him in, that is an act of goodness. Even though he/she is your friend, you have to the what’s right. You may even get rewarded financially for providing help that led to his arrest. The victim may also pay you with friendship, or many other things. Goodness is an investment that will never fail, and it may result in a huge profit. It will express your morality and character, and will enlighten your name. Everyone should follow this because it allows us to practice goodness, while benefitting in several ways.

Reflection: I would not like to follow this career pathways because the oral cavity offers nothing that peaks my interest. Some people might have some really nasty teeth as well, and I wouldn’t want to deal with a patient who doesn’t ever brush their teeth. Lot’s of the times, the doctor has to deal with the patient looking at them for long periods of time, which can be very awkward at times. Other than that, they have a pretty nice salary, which can be tempting for many individuals(Not Me).

“My basic principle is that you don’t make decisions because they are easy; you don’t make them because they are cheap; you don’t make them because they’re popular; you make them because they’re right.” To me, this quote means that is that people don’t, and should make decisions based on popularity, simplicity, or cheapness. You make them because they are what you think know know what’s right at the time. When you apply this to the decisions you’re forced to face, you will most likely have a positive outcome. Even when you’re forced to make a really difficult decision, choose what you know is right, and the other choices won’t matter anymore. This helps you, by getting you on the road or path to success. Ultimately makes you independent, and a good decision maker. These are some important characteristics that leaders tend to have. This can remind you to always look at the possibilities and results of every decision or problem you’re forced to face in your life.

Joseph Smith

“It is our duty to concentrate all our influence to make popular that which is sound and good, and unpopular that which is unsound” To me, this quote means that we are obligated to make everything that is good, popular. We are also obligated to make everything that is bad unpopular, so that it is frowned upon. This help by shaping the way people look at certain activities. As a teen, this can have major applications to my life. Many teens these days thing that doing illegal things is cool. With this quote, we change that, and teach our generation to change our minds about these things. This helps keep a safe environment, and also helps with your success. Applying this quote to your life, also makes you a positive influence and role model for children. You will be well-liked, and overall a better person with a great character.

Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln

“I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with with him while he is right, and part with when he goes wrong.” This quote means that winning isn’t a certainty, and is out of your control sometimes. But you can always do what is right and true. You must stand with anyone who is doing the right thing, no matter who they are. You must also part ways with them when they are wrong, no matter how much you enjoy standing alongside that person. You may not always win, but you can always chose to play fair, and be a champion in everyone’s heart. If you win a competition because you cheated, you are a winner to no one, not even yourself. If your opponent won fairly, then congratulate them. President Lincoln played fairly, and those who knew he was doing the right thing, stood right beside him.  If Lincoln would have lost, his followers would still continue to support him because the things he did were right. If he hd planned to do bad things, then his followers would choose to not support him any further, even if he was the president of the United States.

Reflection: This would be a job that I would like to try out, but I wouldn’t want it as my career. The reason for this is because I like focusing on the anatomy and functions of the entire body. This job does pay decently well, but I’d prefer something that requires more problem solving and thinking. This does seem like a hard job, but it lacks some other aspects that I’m looking for in a job.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Character is higher than intellect.” To me this quote means that your intellect does matter, but character will always beat intellect. No matter how smart you are, if you have bad character, then your intellect is useless. They are both important, so it’s best to keep both at a high level, but always focus on having a good character. If you have a high intellectual level but a bad character, people will only notice your bad character. There are some basketball coaches that look for good character in players. Being smart can make you a likeable person. But if your character is rotten, then many people many not enjoy being around you. This can be true in friendships, relationships, family, and social life. Many rewards can come from having a good character. People tend to like you more, and they also may like conversing with you more often. Because of this, you enjoy communicating with others, instead of always staying quiet and being independent.

“I trust that my hard work will pay off.” To me this means that no matter what your goal is, it will pay off in the end, no matter how long or hard the goal was. Knowing that you will benefit from working hard, gives us motivation to start and continue on until the very end. The feeling of achievement is a very special feeling, and makes you want to pursue even more. I am a skater, and the feeling that I get when i learn a new trick is amazing. Its one of the best feelings ever, and it allows me to choose goals that are more difficult, and it makes things that seemed impossible, look possible. For me, this is a keystone to success. This has helped me accomplish and achieve many goals, or things in life. All the studying I do, might be considered torture to some people, but I don’t let that scare me. My hard work has paid off, and I consider myself to be one of the smartest people I know. Because of this, I set an expectation for myself, and plan to pursue a greater intellectual level.
