Thomas S. Monson

“You can’t be right by doing wrong; you can’t be wrong by doing right.” If you do what’s right, no matter who tells you not to do it, you will never be wrong. If you do what’s wrong, and you or others tell you it’s right, you will be wrong. Everyone can tell the difference between right and wrong. It’s our choice to do what’s right or wrong. You might be put in a situation where a reliable source is telling you that what you’re doing is wrong. But if you know it’s right, even if that reliable source says you’re wrong, you will still be right. As the quote states, “ you can’t be wrong by doing right.” If you’re doing doing what’s wrong, but you keep telling yourself it’s right, you’re wrong. Deep down inside you know that you’re doing wrong. This quote can apply to anything in our life. Such as school, or even when getting peer pressured to doing drugs.

“Enthusiasm makes the difference” To me this quote means that enthusiasm changes the process and outcome of something. Enthusiasm is key for lots of situations in life. An example of this can be when in school. In school, enthusiasm can help you get your work done faster or improve the quality of your work. This will result in better scores and better grades overall. Another example of this can at your job. For example a teacher showing no enthusiasm will may influence the students to show little to no enthusiasm. The results to this cannot be positive, and may lead to a harder job or experience. Another example can be a job that requires you to converse with the customers. If you show no enthusiasm, the customers won’t like it, and may not come back to the business. Enthusiasm will also help you with your relationships, or social life. Others will tend to enjoy talking or socializing with you more. This will occur on social media, and even in real life.

Dean Smith

Dean Smith

“I wasn’t trying to leave a legacy.I was trying to do what was right.” To me, this quote means that you don’t have to live your life trying to become something unique. As long as you do what’s right, You will leave a ‘legacy’ behind. Dean Smith wasn’t the most hard working and serious coach. But he had what some other coaches didn’t. He had character, which contributed to his success. Dean Smith also had a great relationship with the people around him, such as his team. He also had great sportsmanship, which was shown at a championship game. It was a close game, but his team ended up winning the other hardworking team. He had won, then proceeded to walk and congratulate the opposing coach on a nice game. At the end of the day, they were both winners because of the connection they both had with their teams.

Reflection: Do you think you would like to be one? Why? Why not? I would not like to become one because it seems a bit too hard for me. I also wouldn’t choose something that is really challenging me for me as my profession. The requirements required to do this job, don’t seem too bad, but the profession doesn’t have many traits of my dream job. The pay is decently high, but I don’t see myself doing this type of work in the future.

“It’s not about how to achieve your dreams. It’s about how to lead your life. If you lead your life the right way, the karma (good results, destiny, fortune, good luck) will take care of itself. The dreams will come to you.” To me, this means that when you follow your passion, don’t worry about the process. If you did what is right, success will come to you naturally. The dreams come naturally when you put in the time and effort into your passion. As long as you do what you want to do, you will always be happy and successful. Doing what you truly want to do, separates you from the people that follow those mainstream jobs, such as a doctor or lawyer. Following your your passion may provide you with less competition than that of those mainstream jobs. If I try to make my passion a profession, I will have a chance of succeeding because I enjoy doing it. I will have to devote lots of my time, but at least I will have fun and never get bored. Doing what I love might also give me an unbelievable income.
Skating

What is your passion and why is it a passion of yours? My passion is skating because I use it to relieve stress and get exercise at the same time. Ever since i landed my first trick, I felt this feeling of accomplishment and it made me feel good.

How can you make this passion become your profession? I can make this passion into a profession if I practice everyday, for around a decade.

What education is required? No education is required to make skating a profession. The only thing required is contacts, social media, skill, and good character.

What skills, talents, and attitudes are required? To skate, there is no requirements, but if you want to become pro you will have to put in at least a decade of work. When you’re pro, mainstream brands put your name on a skateboard. The more your board sells, the more money you make. Therefore you need to be likeable so people can buy your boards in order to support you.

Picture:

Reflection: If I ever decided that I want to become a professional skateboarder, I would put in at least four hours of skating everyday, for x amount of years. I will also have to expose myself and life on social media. I will do this in order to get recognition from the skating community.

Theodore Roosevelt

Educating the body,mind, character.

Theodore Roosevelt
“Of all the the work that is done or that can be done for our country, the greatest is that of educating the body, the mind, and above all the character, giving spiritual and moral training to those who in a few years are themselves to decide the destinies of the nation.” To me this quote means that character is above the body and mind. The reason for this is just an opinion that i don’t agree with, but I can relate to the quote a bit. This quote also states that you need to pass down your knowledge or “training” because it helps your nation develop evenly, and as a whole. You can have body and mind. But according to this quote, character beats all.Being a good person and being nice is more important than your physical and mental self. This is important because without this, it wouldn’t be the same. The nation might even be filled with people who weren’t trained or taught well. The nation might even be at chaos, if this wasn’t a thing. This helps everyone around you, and even the future of yourself and others. Educating others will eventually lead to self education. It might even lead to someone educating you. You never know, you can always learn something new.

They’ve told me that the job is very good for learning new things, and to gain experience. This job also doesn’t have many requirements because they give you on-the-job training. This is an ok paying job for someone who is young, or new to the field. This job can be enough to fund your job in the future, or the education required for it.

“Take responsibility for your own body, and spirit, for your own physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.” To me this quote means that you should be able to make choices on your about, and that benefit your physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. This means that you are responsible for anything positive or negative things that affect your well-being. This can apply to many things. One example can be when playing, or training for sports. You will be responsible if you get hurt. But you will also be responsible if you find successful, such as turning pro. Another example can be at home and at school. You have the choice to study and pay attention in school. Paying attention in school and studying will make you responsible of the successful you may have obtained. To me, the spiritual part means nothing, because it’s against my beliefs. I don’t affiliate with that opinion what’s so ever, but I do think that you are responsible for what ever happens to you, based on a result from your decisions.

“Intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character, that is the goal of true education. To me, this quote means that without character, intelligence is nothing. It’s the same with character. Without intelligence, character is nothing. An example of this can be in sports. You have the intelligence and requirements to qualify to play. But if you don’t have good character or sportsmanship, no one is going to acknowledge your intelligence. Another example can be in school. You can have good character, but if you don’t have a certain level of intelligence, that will become irrelevant in most people’s eyes.Overall, it’s best to have a good amount of both intelligence and character because it will benefit you in many ways, such as socially.

“We need the courage to START and CONTINUE what we should do, and the courage to STOP what we shouldn’t do.” To me this means that we need to obtain the courage to stand for and do what’s right, and also have the courage to stop what we shouldn’t do. An example of this can be returning something that you stole from someone. It might takes lot’s of courage to confront them, but the person may let it slide because you were honest and were kind enough to return the stolen object. Doing this can lead to benefits, like trust from others such as your friends or family. Another example can be when having to do something you don’t enjoy, such as offering someone your seat on a busy bus. You will have to stand up until you get to the stop, but you person you offered your seat to will respect you more. Others will see this kind action, and might also respect or thank you after the kind occurrence.

School Break Days

For the school break I played games, studied, and skated. During the break I didn't go to anywhere special. I did meet a group of people when I was out skating by myself. A movie I watched was Scary Movie One, which is a comedy. I skated throughout the break and a sport i watch was football(NFL). A book I read was Evicted by Mathew Desmond. For homework i had to do an essay and a poem. I also watched lots of video about an organisms health. Most of the time, I Skyped with friends and played games. Another thing that I did was watch debates about oppression. One crazy thing that occurred was when I confronted a male for stolen Valor. He left while screaming that I was crazy. I asked him for a military ID because his uniform was completely off. Wearing a military uniform that wasn't earned by serving is Stolen Valor, which is a federal offence.
